What's Happening In the Resource Room

  • Here in the Resource Room I use the Orton-Gillingham method, which teaches reading and spelling through systematic, direct phonics instruction.  It is a "multi-sensory" instructional method, which means it engages the senses of sight, sound, and touch.  We also use the Reading Milestones program to improve vocabulary and reading comprehension. Target Spelling is another program used which teaches spelling through word families.  You can read more about these programs in the links below.

We also have been using some very exciting math programs.  The "Semple Math" program is used for addition and subtraction.  "Times Tables the Fun Way" is used for multiplication.  Both programs use mnemonic rhymes and visual clues to help students master their basic facts.  Some students use the general classroom curriculum (Envision Math) as a "guide" but move at their own pace and get supplemental instruction.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions about these programs and how they are used to help your children.  I'd love for you to visit and see it for yourself!
